This page contains downloadable
(PDF) copies of my Ph.D. thesis, including a fair amount of unpublished
material. In reality, two versions of the thesis were written. The
first was much longer: 1,236 pages in 12 chapters divided into three
volumes (the third of which consisted only of data appendices). Perhaps
not surprisingly, I was asked to shorten this for the final version, which
ended up being 894 pages in 7 chapters in a single volume of text and with
one volume of appendices.
While I am (mostly) happy with the final version, I do feel that a large amount of important information was cut
out. In light of this, I hereby make both the final version and the
key alternate chapters available for download.
Anything in the final draft can be cited as part
of the thesis, but the alternate chapters must be cited as "T.R. Gregory,
unpublished" unless the material in question already appears in a journal.
I hope you will find this material useful and interesting.
